ASHEVILLE AMBLERS WALKING CLUB Club features free, monthly 5K or 10K walks in Asheville, Black Mountain and Hendersonville. Associated with American Volkssport Association. 828.687.2777.
ASHEVILLE HIKING MEET-UP GROUP Social and hiking club made up of all ages and professions. Hikes take place Saturdays and Sundays.
CAROLINA MOUNTAIN CLUB Holds multiple hikes during the week. 828.883.2447.
CHARGERS & RECHARGERS HIKING CLUB An “informal loose-knit group of hiking enthusiasts in the western and northwestern mountains of North Carolina. Most of the membership lives in the area stretching from Burnsville and Spruce Pine up to Boone.”
GIRLS-ONLY HIKE CLUB Women-only hike the third Saturday of each month. 828.209.1503, firstname.lastname@example.org.
MOUNTAIN HIGH HIKERS Membership in southwest North Carolina and north Georgia. Prospective members may take three “guest” hikes before being required to join.
NANTAHALA HIKING CLUB A hiking/trail maintenance club based in the Franklin-Highlands area. 828.369.6820.
PISGAH HIKERS Hikes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays out of Brevard. Hikes range from three to 12 miles.
SMOKY MOUNTAINS HIKING CLUB Based in Knoxville, exploring the Smokies.
WOODFIN YMCA WALKING CLUB: Meets 9 a.m. Mondays at the bird sanctuary at Beaver Lake, Merrimon Avenue. Open to everyone. Call Lynn at 768-1338.
336 AREA HIKING GROUP Winston-Salem-based meetup representing hikers throughout the 336 Area Code.
HIKERS OF IREDELL CLUB Hikers from the Statesville and Mooresville area.
PIEDMONT APPALACHIAN TRAIL HIKERS Membership comes primarily from the Charlotte/Triad/Triangle crescent. Maintains a 70-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, from VA 670 at the South Fork of the Holston River north to US 52 near Bland.
PIEDMONT HIKING & OUTING CLUB Formed in 1982, membership base is in the Triad, with organized hikes mainly in the Triad and along the northern Blue Ridge escarpment.
RALEIGH WEEKDAY OUTDOOR ACTIVITY GROUP Meetup group focusing on workweek outings.
TRIAD HIKING & OUTDOORS GROUP Meetup group that does hiking and other outdoor activities.
TRIANGLE HIKING & OUTDOORS GROUP Largest club of its kind in the Carolinas, with nearly 3,900 members at last count.
SIERRA CLUB, NORTH CAROLINA CHAPTER The state’s 13 chapters — two at the coast, seven in the Piedmont, four in the mountains — conduct hikes, among other activities. Go to the state site to find local chapters and a calendar of hikes and other events.
